Arab League chief joins protesters in Tahrir Square

Protesters welcomed Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Araby as he joined Egyptians' celebrations of the first anniversary of the 25 January revolution.

Several protesters surrounded him in front of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square

Araby commended the peaceful protests demanding democratic rule. He expressed his wish that the transitional period would pass safely and that stability would return to Egypt.

He called on citizens to work hard and to seek freedom, justice, dignity and judiciary independence and push for the dreams of those killed over the past year.

Araby stayed in Tahrir for almost an hour, discussing Egypt, Syria, Palestine and regional news with people in the square.
