Three anonymous gunmen attacked a policeman affiliated with the Beni Suef National Security Agency outside his house and injured a passerby Friday before escaping.
The policeman Ashraf Essmat, 45, suffered wounds to his stomach and chest and was transferred to a hospital. He was later retransferred to Agouza Police Hospital in Cairo due to his critical case.
The injured civilian, Ahmed Khalaf, will undergo surgery.
