Minya–Thousands of residents of the village of Deir Mawas attended the funeral on Thursday of 44-year-old Fadl Abdallah, who family members say was beaten to death by police at the local police station.
The funeral was held amid heavy security.
Saber Abdallah, brother of the deceased, renewed accusations that police officer Mohamed Sobhy had beaten his brother to death. "That officer killed another man three months ago, but the family accepted reconciliation," he said.
Prosecutors have heard testimony from five eyewitnesses who claimed that the police officer kicked Abdallah in the stomach and chest until he died.
According to a forensic report, Abdallah died inside the police station from a severe decrease in blood circulation.
Prosecutors are expected to summon for questioning the policemen that initially arrested Abdallah at his home earlier this week.
