Internet activists are circulating a video showing about a dozen police and army forces torturing two detainees at Kordy police station in the Nile Delta city of Daqahliya.
The security personnel laugh as they slap the detainees and give them electric shocks. In the video, one of the officers is shown administering the shocks to the men's ears and chests.
Activists on Twitter and Facebook have called for a rally Friday to protest against police torture.
While state-owned newspaper Al-Ahram described the detainees as thugs, activists said the law does not allow the torture of any suspects, regardless of their alleged crimes. According to MENA, the detainees are accused of involvement in the illegal weapons trade.
Al-Ahram reported that Adel Morsy, the head of the Military Judiciary, on Wednesday ordered an immediate probe into the incident. The paper also said Morsy considered the publication of the video an official report of the incident and was referring all those who appeared in it for investigations.
Activists accuse the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) of following in the footsteps of ousted President Hosni Mubarak and refusing to remove officials connected to his regime. Many say military police have committed several crimes including conducting virginity tests on female protesters, torturing protesters and trying civilians before military tribunals.
In July, a gas station worker accused military police of torturing him after he asked them to wait their turn to fill up on gas.
The Arab Network For Human Rights Information in August ordered investigations into crimes allegedly committed by the military police.
