Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh underwent eye surgery on Sunday night to remove a piece of shrapnel, but his health is stable, a medical source at the military hospital he is staying at in Riyadh said.
The source, who requested anonymity, said Saleh is fed through a nasal tube and suffers from second-degree burns to 40 percent of his body.
Doctors removed a piece of shrapnel from Saleh's eye after two operations, the most recent of which was on Sunday night, the source said. A second piece of shrapnel is still lodged in his leg.
Another source at the same hospital said Saleh intends to hold a press conference in Riyadh immediately following his recovery, but gave no further details about a date of his release or whether he intends to return to Yemen.
