Tagammu to challenge parliamentary poll results in court

Tagammu Party candidates who failed to gain seats in the parliamentary election plan to file lawsuits seeking to invalidate election results in their constituencies. The party has asked candidates to challenge the results in the Administrative Court as a stepping-stone to taking the case to the Supreme Constitutional Court.

In an election that the opposition say was marred by massive fraud, the ruling NDP achieved a sweeping victory.

Sayyed Abdel Aal, secretary-general for the party, said the decision was reached after the High Elections Commission ignored complaints lodged by the party’s candidates against National Democratic Party (NDP) candidates during the recently-concluded election.

Abdel Aal added that the party will provide financial assistance to members who do not have sufficient money to file the lawsuits.
