Several youth movements have rejected a meeting called for by presidential media adviser Ahmed al-Muslemany with 25 January and 30 June political groups.
Some movements called the meeting a ‘division of revolution youth,' while others put forward a pre-condition of releasing detained youth held pending investigations on violence during the third anniversary of the January revolution.
Amr Ali, general coordinator of the April 6 Movement, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that his movement had not received any calls for a meeting since 3 June. He described meetings between the presidency and political forces as being similar to "meetings with deposed President Mohamed Morsy when he used to call on his Islamist supporters and claim they were national talks.”
Shaimaa Hamdy, media coordinator of the Revolution Path Front, denied receiving any calls from the presidency, saying that the front refuses to negotiate with the presidency until detained youth are released.
Essam al-Sherif, general coordinator of the Free Front for Peaceful Change, said he will apologize for not attending the meeting, which will take place within a few days with Muslemany, due to the absence of a clear agenda for dialogue and the lack of response to previous demands at meetings to release detainees. He added that distinguishing between those who belong to the 25 January and others who belong to the 30 June contributes to creating divisions in amont the revolution youth.
The Egypt Revolution Party rejected the decision by Interim President Adly Mansour to order Muslemany to meet with the political groups, saying that Muslemany "invites whoever he wants" and excludes many political groups. The Egypt Revolution Party also accused him of not inviting the "real revolutionary youth."
