Amr Moussa, chairman of the 50-Committee, predicted that the draft constitution, put forward for a referendum on 14 and 15 January next year, would pass with a 70 percent ‘yes’ vote.
At a press conference for foreign correspondents at the General Information Authority on Sunday, Moussa said that what is important is to participate in the referendum. “Participation is a prelude to unconditional reconciliation from the Muslim Brotherhood or the government,” he said.
He added that the Muslim Brotherhood and the Freedom and Justice Party had been invited to join the Committee of 50 but they had refused. “Now I invite them to participate in the referendum and prove that they are part of this nation and that they want to get out of this chaotic situation,” he said.
He said violence must come to an end because it threatens the stability of the state and society. “We must implement the roadmap to move forward,” he said.
On the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy's statement about the need for foreign supervision during the referendum, Moussa said the Committee of 50 has no jurisdiction in this regard. “Maybe this statement is a step towards reconciliation on the part of the alliance,” he said.
