Ezz tax evasion case postponed

The Tax Evasion Misdemeanor Court decided on Sunday to postpone the retrial of steel tycoon Ahmed Ezz until 22 December.

Ezz is accused of evading LE10.68 million in taxes on his Ezz Al-Dekheila and Ezz Holding companies which made LE42.8 million in profits from 2000 until 2010.

The Tax Evasion Misdemeanor Court had rejected the case in May because the First Instance Court had acquitted the defendant before. The court said the prosecution is thereby bringing the defendant to trial twice, which is in violation of the law.
