“Coup has failed,” Essam al-Erian claims

Essam al-Erian, deputy leader of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), posted a message on Facebook on Sunday that "the coup has failed to impose itself" in Egypt.

Erian said that the perpetrators of what he called the military coup "have failed to impose their coup as a fait accompli and it has been proven that a conspiratorial group has planned and organised a conspiracy since the 25 January revolution to smear the revolution."

Erian claimed that Egyptians still wanted to defend their human and constitutional rights, won during Egypt's January 2011 revolution, and they would ultimately achieve revolutionary aims – among them, to eradicate tyranny, oppresion and corruption.

The FJP leader called on Mohamed Morsy's supporters to form legal, social and political groups to combat oppression carried out by what he referred to as "fascist politicians."

Erian also called for more demonstrations against the government, following on from the Muslim Brotherhood's campaign of "peaceful civil disobedience" over the past few weeks in Egypt.
