6 April, Facebook members demand justice in Saeed case

The 6 April Movement has issued invitations for a silent vigil next Friday in Alexandria, Port Said, Ismailia, Monufiya, Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and the Nile Corniche area of Cairo, to remember the killing of Khaled Saeed by policemen in Alexandria late May.

The vigil is supported by the 350,000 members of a group on Facebook named after Khaled Saeed.

Mohamed Adel, a member of the 6 April movement, said a number of legal experts within the movement have demanded that the general prosecutor add torture and unjustified cruelty to the charges against the two police officers alleged to have killed Saeed.

The 6 April movement and the Facebook group members are demanding that an international panel of forensic examiners be formed to carry out another autopsy of Saeed’s corpse. They are also planning a joint statement calling for legal action to be taken against the medical examiners who conducted the first autopsy–which concluded that the victim was not tortured–and the suspension of the Cleopatra police station chief who carried out the early investigations. They will also request the death penalty to be applied to the two police officers charged.
