6.5 mln citizens screened for early detection of kidney disease, Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Population announced that about 6.5 million citizens had been screened within the framework of a national campaign for the early detection of kidney disease since September 2021, which is part of the 100 Million Healthy Lives Initiative.
Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that 3,601 primary care units were set up under the initiative to detect and cure chronic diseases and kidney disorders, in addition to offering high-quality health services for all citizens in the age of 18 and over 40.
He said citizens that are diagnosed with chronic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes can receive medicine for free at health units or seek treatment at hospitals, according to the patient’s health condition.
The spokesman added the patient who is confirmed to suffer from chronic kidney disease, will be referred to hospitals for getting the necessary treatment free of charge under the initiative.
He noted that medical teams in primary care units are trained on diagnosing kidney disease.
