Forty people were arrested during Tuesday night’s clashes between security forces and protesters in Tahrir Square and at the Balloon Theater in Agouza, an official security source said. During the protests, security forces clashed with demonstrators.
The protests erupted Tuesday evening when families of protesters killed during the uprising were arrested while demonstrating against what they perceived to be the slow pace of justice. Soon after, thousands of people joined protests in Tahrir Square in solidarity with martyr’s families and those arrested.
The source said that 34 people were arrested in Tahrir Square, including one American, and one British citizen, in addition to six others who had been arrested at the Balloon Theater. The source said that all those arrested are under investigation before the military prosecutor.
