Zamalek’s Shikabala to stay home from Qatar friendly

Egypt's national football team coach Hassan Shehata announced on Saturday the list of 21 players who will participate in a friendly match in Qatar 16 December.

The list of players is approximately the same group that won a friendly against Australia in November, with the exception of four players.

Shehata excluded Zamalek’s midfielder Mahmoud Abdel Razeq (Shikabala) from the list after injuries prevented him from playing in the Australia match, along with footballers Mohamed Zidan and Ahmed al-Muhammadi.

Ismaili midfielder Abdallah al-Saeed also failed to make the cut, despite stellar performances with his team in recent Egyptian league matches.

Egypt's national team head coach Shehata had hinted in previous statements that he has been impressed with al-Saeed's performance with Ismaili.

As for the players who will travel to Qatar, they include goalkeepers Abdel Wahed al-Sayyid, Mohamed Sabhy and Amir Abdel Hamid, along with defenders Wael Gomaa, Mahmoud Fathallah, Ahmed Dewidar, Mohamed Nageeb, Sherif Abdel Fadil, Ahmed Samir Farag and Mohamed Abdel Shafy.

Midfielders Ahmed Fathy, Amr al-Sulaya, Islam Awad, Ibrahim Salah, Ahmed Eid, Mohamed Abu Trika and Waleed Suleiman will represent Egypt at the friendly, joined by forwards Ahmed Abdel Zaher, Mohamed Nagy "Geddu" and Ahmed Hassan.

The team departs for Doha Tuesday 14 December, where the coaches will hold a light training session on 15 December, finalizing preparations for the match the following day.
