Youth movement calls for mass protest Friday to demand govt resignation

The Free Front for Peaceful Change has called for protests in Tahrir Square and other main squares nationwide on Friday to call for the entire government to resign, in protest of the new cabinet reshuffle. The Revolution Youth Union (RYU) also declared its refusal of Prime Minister Essam Sharaf’s proposed new cabinet.

Hundreds of protesters continued their sit-in at Tahrir Square on Tuesday, demanding the realization of the revolution’s demands. The RYU called for a continuation of the sit-in until the government resigns, a revolutionary government is formed, and a clear plan is announced to purge state agencies of corruption.

They also demanded that former President Hosni Mubarak be transferred to Tora Prison, those involved in the killing of protesters be given speedy trials, and a drafting committee be formed to draw up a new constitution.

Fifty-one protesters in Tahrir Square announced Tuesday that they were going on a hunger strike, although a doctor with the Maspiro Youth Movement put the number at 270.
