A number of young Islamists formed a revolutionary alliance running parallel to the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy which they described as a “failure.”
The new alliance will allegedly organize demonstrations and carry out operations targeting the police in response to the violent dispersal of the Rabaa al-Adaweya and al-Nahda sit-ins.
Mohamed Sohayb, a young member, said the alliance would turn down any initiatives or negotiations for reconciliation with the current authority as this would mean a “betrayal to martyrs.” Sohayb stressed that they would continue to organize protests and said that revolutionary jihadi groups would be formed to respond to the violence committed by security forces against demonstrators.
Sohayb said in a phone call with Al-Masry Al-Youm that the alliance would work globally and locally to break the “coup” through protests and collect signatures to reject military rule. Sohayb said the alliance would prepare for an “Islamic revolution,” explaining that the youth belonging to the alliance rejected the “spineless” positions of the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy.
“We repeatedly declared that if the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy makes negotiations or reconciles with the regime, it would become an enemy, just like [Defense Minister Abdel Fattah] al-Sisi and his associates,” Sohayb added.
Mohamed Abu Samra, secretary-general of the Islamic Party affiliated with the Jihad organization, said that the new alliance includes a number of youth movements opposed to the military rule and aims to form a revolutionary body independent of the National Alliance.
