US President Donald Trump and other world leaders condemned terrorist attacks on churches in Alexandria and Tanta on Sunday which claimed the lives of 45 people and left over 150 injured.
"So sad to hear of the terrorist attack in Egypt US strongly condemns. I have great confidence that President al-Sisi will handle situation properly," Trump wrote on Twitter.
The United Nations Security Council condemned the attacks that targeted churches in Tanta and Alexandria, describing the incidents as "outrageous" and "cowardly."
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, issued a separate statement condemning the attacks, and expressed hope that the perpetrators would be prosecuted.
EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy Federica Mogherini condemned the attacks, stressing the EU's solidarity with the government and people of Egypt in its fight against terrorism.
Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences to the families of the victims.
Pope Francis, who is scheduled to visit Egypt in a few days said in prayers on Sunday: "We pray for the victims claimed this morning…To the Coptic Church and to all the dear Egyptian nation I express my deep condolences. I pray for the dead and the injured, and I am close in spirit to the family members [of the deceased and injured] and to the entire community."
"May the Lord convert the hearts of the people who are sowing terror, violence and death, and also the hearts of those who make and traffic weapons," he added.
The UAE President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed their condolences to the Egyptian people, stressing their country's support against "this criminal act of malice".
The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, sent a cable to Sisi, expressing his sincere condolences to him and the families of the victims.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, expressed his sincere condolences to President Sisi and the Egyptian people, stressing Saudi Arabia's support to Egypt and its people against those trying to undermine its security and stability.
The Saudi Crown Prince, First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and deputy crown prince of Saudi Arabia and Defense Minister Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud also dispatched two similar cables to Sisi.
Bahrain condemned the bombings in a statement issued by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, stressing his country's support for Egypt and for all measures taken to confront these terrorist acts.
Tunisia issued a statement strongly condemning the bombings and expressed its full solidarity with the Egyptian people and support for the measures taken by the Egyptian government to safeguard its security and citizens.
Iraq also declared full solidarity with Egypt against terrorism.
