Claims have spread across Egyptian social media that that the TikTok platform will be banned in Egypt by October, coinciding with a lawsuit in the US.
No statement thus far has been issued by the official authorities in Egypt, whether the Ministry of Communications, the Cabinet, or the concerned authorities.
Nor has TikTok issued any official statements indicating that the application will be banned within Egypt.
At the end of June, MP Mohamed Ezzat Arafat submitted a briefing request to the House of Representatives requesting a ban on TikTok in Egypt.
Arafat indicated that his request comes in response to demands from numerous families concerned that the platform violates the societial and family values upholding Egyptian society.
