Al Jazeera announced on Sunday evening that two of its correspondents, Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqea, were killed by Israeli forces in a direct attack targeting a journalists’ tent opposite the al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City.
Anas al-Sharif was born on December 3, 1996, and lived in Jabalia Camp. He received his education at UNRWA schools and those run by the Palestinian Ministry of Education.
He later enrolled at al-Aqsa University in 2014, studying radio and television.
Sharif began his work as a volunteer with the Northern Media Network, then moved to work as a correspondent for Al Jazeera during the current war.
He was constantly threatened by Israeli forces due to his coverage of their aggression against the Gaza Strip.
On September 23, 2018, he was injured by shrapnel from a live bullet in the abdomen while covering a march east of Abu-Safiya Hill, northeast of Jabalia.
On December 11, 2023, the Israeli Air Force bombed his family’s home in Jabalia camp, killing his father.
Journalist Mohammed Qreiqea joined Al Jazeera after working as a researcher for a human rights organization.
His mother was killed in an Israeli attack during the siege of al-Shifa Medical Complex last year.
