Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabbahi has lashed out at his rivals in the presidential election, saying they are not qualified to rule Egypt.
“The great Egyptian people will not accept being ruled by the Brotherhood or the remnants of the former regime,” he said, pointing to Islamist candidate Mohamed Morsy and Mubarak-era Foreign Minister Amr Moussa.
Sabbahi also criticized the Muslim Brotherhood for trying to monopolize power and control the Constituent Assembly.
At a rally in Alexandria on Tuesday, he said he is willing to meet with his rivals Abouel Fotouh, Khaled Ali, Abul Ezz al-Hariry and Hesham al-Bastawisi to form a presidential team among them.
On his position regarding Israel, he said that he is neither for peace nor for war, and that he would open all crossings with Gaza and supply it with gas. “But I would not export gas to Israel, even at double the price, for the issue is not the price but the principle,” he said.
Regarding a safe exit for the ruling military junta, he said he preferred a “just” exit. “Anyone making mistakes must be brought to account,” he said.
