Water company looks to seawater desalination

The Holding Company for Drinking Water and Sanitation is attaching great importance to promoting the operation and maintenance sector of the company and to developing the best ways of ensuring quality and cost-effective maintenance work, especially seawater desalination, said company head Mamdouh Raslan on Wednesday.

The third International Forum for Operation and Maintenance in the Arab countries is a real chance for an exchange of the latest research and experience in the field of water facilities and equipment maintenance in Arab countries, Raslan added on the sidelines of the forum in Cairo.

The company is interested in the seawater desalination technology as one of the most important alternatives to the Nile water, he said.

Transferring Nile water to remote areas is expensive and will result in the waste of large amounts of water when changing the direction of already established waterlines, the official added.

The International Forum for Operation and Maintenance includes over 60 experts from 20 countries and discusses the operation and maintenance of water, power facilities and equipment.
