Wafd Party set to field 200 parliamentary candidates

The liberal opposition Wafd Party's final list of parliamentary candidates is expected to include a total of 200 nominees to run in elections scheduled for late next month.

The list already contains 50 names, including five members of the party’s executive committee and eight sitting members of parliament.

Prominent committee member Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, however, has not yet decided whether he plans to run in elections.

The five executive committee members are Fouad Badrawy for the Nabruah constituency; Yassin Tag Eddin for Qena; Hussein Mansour for Khalifa; Mahmoud al-Saqqa for Dokki; and Alaa Abdel Momeim for Al-Darb al-Ahmar.

The Wafd Party also plans to field 12 female candidates in the upcoming races.

The party's candidate lists for the Suez, Sharqiya and Aswan governorates, meanwhile, reportedly have yet to be finalized.
