The Wafd Party reiterated on Saturday its decision not to be part of the new coalition cabinet of Prime Minister Hesham Qandil.
The reason is that the transition period needs a homogeneous cabinet with the same ideology in order to implement the president's platform, said the party in a statement following a meeting of its leaders headed by party chairperson Sayyed al-Badawy.
The president inherently has that right according to Article 56 of the Constitutional Declaration, the statement added.
The statement said news reports predicting that the Wafd Party would be part of the cabinet were wrong.
"The executive bureau will always be supportive of any [decisions] that achieve the interests of the homeland and the citizen away from narrow party interests," the statement added.
The statement mentioned that Wafd Party leader and former Minister of Tourism Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour expressed his desire not to stay on as minister.
Qandil was scheduled to announce the names of new ministers on Saturday, but has postponed the anouncement due to ongoing consultations with the nominees.
