The Wafd Party has announced its members have the right to choose freely between the candidates in the presidential election run-off on 16 and 17 June, in conformity with the rule of law.
The party’s executive bureau had on Tuesday announced that it is impartial to all candidates.
At a news conference that was broadcast by Al-Hayat channel, party leader Al-Sayed Al-Badawy said the party chose Amr Moussa in the first round of the election on the grounds that he expresses the principles of the revolution. “Unfortunately he did not make it,” he said.
He hoped that the winner would commit to the fundamentals of a modern democracy based on the principles of citizenship, and pledge to purge those whose hands are stained with the blood of the martyrs.
The run-off is between Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsy and Mubarak’s last Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq.
