The Wafd Party supreme board has decided to dismiss seven members affiliated to the Wafd Reform Current. These members had earlier been accepted by the party’s executive office to be appointed to the supreme board.
The decision made during the board’s meeting on Friday included dismissing Yassin Tag Eddin, Mohamed al-Messiry, Fouad Badrawy, Abdel Aziz al-Nahhas, Essam Shiha, Sherif Taher and Mostafa Raslan.
The board said the dismissed members refused all the proposed solutions given to them, most importantly their appointment to the supreme board. According to the board, the members' reactions represent a dictatorial attitude that was deemed unacceptable. The decision also stipulated that this issue should now be closed and that the ousted members would be prevented from tackling the issue in the media without permission from the executive office.
The board also decided to form a legal committee authorized by the supreme board to take all the necessary legal measures to confront violations against the rights of the party, its members or institutions.
The decision comes five days after the executive office approved the appointment of the seven members to the supreme board in an attempt to settle the recent turn of events which saw the members rejecting steps taken by the party regarding the supreme board elections. Those members were suspended because of their objections toward the elections and were later deprived of running for supreme board elections, which took place on May 15.
Regarding amendments to the party regulations, the supreme board welcomed the creation of new regulations that will cope with the political development in the country. It said that the current chief of the party, al-Sayyed al-Badawi, accepted amendments more than once, starting in 2010 and 2015.
