Wafd to oust members who continue bids in run-off vote

President of the liberal, opposition Wafd Party Sayyed al-Badawi said Wafd intends to strip party membership from those who continue their candidacy bids in Sunday's parliamentary run-off vote despite a leadership decision to boycott.

Al-Badawi on Thursday formally declared Wafd's withdrawal from Sunday's vote.

In exclusive statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, al-Badawi said the party's supreme authority will hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to decide implementation methods for the dismissals.

Fouad Badrawi and Mohamed Mostafa Shordi are the lone party members to heed the leadership's decision to withdrawal from Sunday's run-off. Rami Lakkah, Tareq Sebaq, Emran Megahed, Atef al-Ashmouni, Nafie Heikal, Magda al-Noueishi and Mohamed al-Maleki will persist with their bids.
