Virus behind Assiut epidemic remains ambiguous: health minister

The virus behind a recent small-scale epidemic in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Assiut remains unknown, Health Minister Ahmed Emad-Eddin said, adding that infected individuals have only showed external symptoms of high temperature and vomiting.

Speaking during a tour at hospitals in Alexandria on Wednesday, Emad-Eddin said the “medically unregistered” virus has been put under control after 60 cases received medical care.

The mysterious virus was suspected to have caused the death of three people in the area over the past few weeks.
