Villagers stop vehicle, distribute load of butane gas cylinders

Butane gas cylinders shortage has continued on Tuesday, marking the fourth consecutive week for the crisis in several governorates.

As people’s suffering continued, villagers at Beni Suef stopped a vehicle loaded with cylinders after stopping it on the main road.

The vehicle coming from a butane gas factory, was carrying 400 cylinders on way to the stock of the village. Stopped, the villagers began to distribute the cylinders amongst themselves and paid the driver directly who said the stock is only meant to serve part of the village not all of it.

Last week, Domestic Trade and Supply Minister Khaled Hanafy said that the inclement weather conditions that recently hit the country was the main reason behind decline in imported butane gas causing delay in arrival of shipments due to closure of some ports.

“I reassure citizens that the crisis has neared the end after the supply of butane has been increased,” the minister said indicating suitable amounts have been pumped nationwide.
