President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi boarded the Al-Mahrousa presidential yacht, wearing his military attire, on Thursday, during the inauguration of the New Suez Canal waterway.
This was Sisi's second public appearance in military attire since last July when he visited North Sinai, following violent attacks on military sites by militants.
Many governments do not authorize their presidents to wear military attire as it is seen inappropriate for elected officials to blur the lines between the military and the civilian government.
Sisi had vowed to no longer wear military attire after he resigned from his post as former defense minister under toppled Islamist President Mohamed Morsi.
The move by Sisi underscores the strong military role in his presidency and comes at a time when the army is increasingly pushing for more influence in the Egyptian state and the economy.
The presidency announced that no less than 30 world leaders would attend the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal project on Thursday.
