VIDEO: Esraa al-Taweel exits police station following release

Al-Masry Al-Youm has captured the moment when activist Esraa al-Taweel was released on Saturday from the Boulaq al-Dakrour police station.

The Cairo Criminal Court had ordered the release of the 23-year-old whom prosecutors accuse of disseminating false news and being affiliated with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. Her release was ordered due to her poor health. She was ordered not to leave home except with permission from security.

Al-Taweel was shot in the leg in January 2014 while taking photos of protests marking the third anniversary of the 2011 uprising. Activists and rights organizations have been pressing for her release since her arrest in June.
