The Egyptian/German duo Naheli have returned to the stage with their new single “Reign,” ahead of the band’s double album that is set to be released later in the year.
“Reign” is a slow burning pop song that cleverly builds up tension and energy before the drums and bass kick in full gear.
According to lead singer Lina Farah, the track is about “feeling burned out and needing to rest,” yet also feeling the need to push and create.
“Reign” was one of the first tracks the band wrote last year. Lina covered the melody and music, while Till created a dynamic feel with electronics and drums.
The two then worked with noted producer Goldielocks in order to polish the song into pop shape.
The result? A deeply emotive and euphoric song that blends Middle East accents with a European finish.
The double album is titled “Chemistry and Re-evaluation.”
“Chemistry” is more pop-oriented and represents feelings and emotions, while “Re-evaluation” is about thoughts and relies on a more progressive sound.
Following the internal struggle theme of “Reign,” the album also centers around two parts of the inner self.
“A lot of themes are about duality: the overall concept itself but also the songs within the album. Reign is one good example, as it represents two sides that need each other and also contradict each other at the same time,” Lina said.
Reign was released on August 6, and ‘Chemistry and Re-evaluation’ will follow on October 1.
