Video: Egyptian film ‘Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo’ debuts at Venice International Film Festival

The Egyptian film “Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo” has officially debuted at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, premiering within the Orizzonti Extra section.

The film’s Orizzonti Extra screening aligns with the festival’s focus on showcasing innovative and promising international cinema.

The trailer, released alongside its premiere, offers a glimpse into the story of Hassan, a young man on a journey of self-discovery as he risks everything to save his beloved dog, Rambo.

Hassan’s perilous quest forces him to confront the demons of his past.  After a fateful incident, he finds himself hunted by his neighbors and community.

The cast and crew of “Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo” are set to make their grand entrance at the Venice Film Festival on Monday evening.

The film will have its world premiere on Wednesday, September 4th, at nine pm in SALA GIARDINO. A special screening for the press and filmmakers will take place earlier that day at 2:30 pm in the same venue.

Additional screenings are scheduled for Thursday, September 5th, at 9:00 AM in SALA GIARDINO.

Attending the world premiere are actors Essam Omar, Rakeen Saad, Ahmed Bahaa and even the canine star of the film, Rambo.

The film’s creative team, including director and writer Khaled Mansour, producers Mohamed Hefzy and Rasha Hosny, and other key crew members, will also be present.

“Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo” finally reached its global debut at the Venice International Film Festival, capping off an eight-year journey of production.

Produced by Mohamed Hefzy of Film Clinic and newcomer Rasha Hosny, the film marks a significant milestone for Hosny, whose career also includes notable contributions to film criticism and programming at major international film festivals.

Film Clinic Indie Distribution will oversee the film’s worldwide distribution.

Prior to its Venice premiere, the film garnered recognition at the Fifth Amman Film Industry Days (AFID), receiving the Visual Identity and DCP Services Award. It also secured several production grants, including support from the Red Sea Film Fund,Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), and Fonds Image de la Francophonie.

The film’s development journey was marked by numerous accolades and opportunities.

The script received development grants from AFAC and CineGouna Platform and participated in prestigious labs and forums such as La Fabrique Cinéma,Beirut Cinema Platform, and Dot on the Map.

Additionally, the film’s script made its mark at international film financing markets like Malmö Film Market and the Durban Film Mart.
