Footage of Egyptian Military College students studying the destruction of an Israeli Merkava tank sparked widespread controversy, though this is not the first time that Egyptian soldiers have been trained to destroy this type of tank, RT reported on Tuesday.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth claimed that Egypt had deleted pictures of the Israeli tank that appeared in a military lecture for students of the Egyptian Military College in front of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
The Merkava tank was first used with live ammunition over five years ago under the name “Raad 31,” where the tank was placed as targets in the Egyptian army’s crosshairs to be destroyed.
The video was posted back then by the army’s military spokesperson. It showcased an Israeli Merkava Mark IV tank being bombed by Egyptian soldiers using RPG launchers as part of the maneuver.
The maneuver included training on a combat management to plan the attack with assistance by the air force and air defense weapons, alongside artillery support to destroy reserves and confuse/destroy enemy command and control centers.
