Video of brawl between guards of Sisi, Museveni over arms

Ugandan newspapers on Wednesday published a video of a brawl between guards of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and guards of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.

The Ugandan newspaper reported "Danger as Museveni, Egyptian President’s guards fight at State House Entebbe."

The Ugandans said that Special Forces Command presidential guards, who guard Museveni and his family battled with four Egyptian presidential guards who attempted to enter the State House (the presidential palace) armed, contrary to standard security practice.

At President Museveni’s official residence, even bodyguards of cabinet ministers deposit their firearms at the entrance and collect them once they leave their bosses.

A brief standoff between the two presidential guards preceded the calm and collected diplomatic engagement, but Museveni’s guards stood their ground and disarmed their Egyptian counterparts.

It is customary for host countries to manage security of a foreign leader and it is unclear why guards of the Egyptian president yesterday felt the pressing need to take care of his security themselves.

In the video appeared Abbas Kamel, Head of the President's office; Sameh Shoukry, Foreign Minister; and Major General Mostafa Sherif,  Presidential Chief of Staff.

Sisi visited Uganda on Sunday in response to an invitation from Ugandan President Museveni. The two presidents held talks over boosting bilateral ties and several African issues of joint interest to both nations.
