Seven civilians were killed — including 3 men, 2 women and a child — in a car bomb explosion in North Sinai on Monday, according to an official armed forces statement.
A weaponized car attempted to storm a checkpoint south of Arish, but a tank stationed 200 meters away intercepted the vehicle. The tank driver noticed four armed assailants in the car who were preparing their weapons to attack the checkpoint, and responded immediately by trying to contain the expected blast by running over the car with the tank.
Seven civilians were killed in the explosion.
The attack would have killed approximately 60 civilians and military personnel, an army spokesperson claimed.
The car was carrying about 10 kg of explosives, according to the official statement.
