USAID says $30 bn invested in Egypt since 1975

The USAID announced it has invested about US$30 billion in Egypt since 1975, adding that its activities during the past two years have provided new job opportunities for more than 40,000 people on a permanent basis, and 20,000 temporary jobs.

The agency said in a statement on Saturday that the last of these activities was a private initiative to train 4,000 farmers in Marsa Matrouh and Behaira governorates on good agricultural practices and international standards.

According to the statement, the initiative allows farmers to compete more fairly internationally, provides money to the local communities, ensures the sustainable use of land and water resources, and reduces the risks to food safety.

The initiative is one aspect of the Egyptian-American partnership, which promotes job creation, economic recovery and reform, business growth in the private sector, and creating a stronger environment for trade and investment, said the statement.
