US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a press briefing on Thursday that the 2014 aid budget for Egypt is US$1.5 billion, including $1.3 billion in military aid, $200 million in economic aid and more than $7 million in security assistance programs, such as military training, drug control, law enforcement, prevention of nuclear weapons, fighting terrorism and removal of landmines.
She pointed out that the first batch of $650 million in military aid awaits the approval of Congress.
US President Barack Obama had approved a deal to hand over to Egypt 10 Apache helicopters to support counterterrorism operations in Sinai.
