Rafah–A US military delegation inspected the steel barrier that Egypt is currently building along its 14km-long border with the Gaza Strip on Wednesday.
Members of the delegation–which was headed by the director of the US embassy in Egypt’s military cooperation department–were accompanied by Egyptian officials who showed them the last sections of the barrier, now in the final phase of construction.
The visit was one of many to be carried out by international observers dispatched to the area to monitor ongoing Egyptian efforts to halt cross-border smuggling activities to the besieged Gaza Strip. The strip has been governed by Palestinian resistance group Hamas since 2007.
