Cairo International Airport authorities denied an American diplomat entry to Egypt on Saturday as he did not have an Egyptian visa.
The US diplomat arrived from Dubai carrying a diplomatic passport, but it did not have an Egyptian visa. So, in conformity with the equal treatment principles, airport authorities could not let him in.
The equal treatment principle has been a rule in Egypt since 2010. Since then anyone carrying a diplomatic passport or those on a special mission have been required to obtain an entry visa before reaching the country, according to airport authorities.
In 2017, based on the same principle, Egypt denied the German ambassador in Israel Christopher Jones entry in Sharm Al-Sheikh airport as he did not have a pre-entry visa, despite having a diplomatic passport.
