Supporters of former President Hosni Mubarak blocked the road in front of Maadi Military Hospital Wednesday, where he is still staying pending transfer back to Tora prison hospital.
Supporters are sitting on the ground to prevent vehicles from transferring him, while a large number of cars have also lined up to cut off the road. Security officials are negotiating with them to open the road and allow three CSF vehicles and two armored vehicles to reach the hospital’s main gates.
Demonstrators chanted, “We will not leave you, [Mubarak], We are your children,” in addition to other slogans accusing the prosecutor general of receiving money from President Mohamed Morsy, while holding pictures of Mubarak.
The Facebook page “I am sorry, Mr. President” also announced that Mubarak supporters were staging a sit-in in front of the hospital to halt his transfer.
The page, administered by Mubarak supporters, described the decision to transfer him as “criminal, and said it will lead to a severe deterioration of Mubarak’s health after it had been settled,” declaring the former president’s health a “red line.”
Earlier, one supporter doused himself in gasoline and threatened to set himself on fire if the former president was moved.
Supporters clashed with hospital security, who prevented them from scaling the fences and the main gate.
“The Brotherhood is doing it out of a personal vendetta after Mubarak waved his hand in court to salute his supporters,” said Mohamed Abdel Qader, a supporter.
The Interior Ministry’s Prisons Department had received the prosecutor general’s decision Wednesday. The decision came after the Public Prosecution reviewed Mubarak’s medical report and determined that the Tora prison hospital was adequately equipped to handle his case.
Sources, however, declined to disclose when Mubarak would be moved due to security reasons.
