Former President Hosni Mubarak’s lawyer has denied news reports Sunday that Mubarak is dying in the Maadi military hospital.
Farid al-Deeb told the privately-owned Al-Shorouk newspaper that Mubarak’s condition is improving.
“His health condition has improved since yesterday compared to the last days,” al-Deeb said.
According to Al-Shorouk, Al-Deeb noted that Mubarak's health has improved because the military hospital is more advanced than the hospital at Tora Prison and has skilled doctors. He added that he would remain there until he has recovered completely.
Earlier on Sunday, the website of state-run Egy News television had quoted sources at the military hospital saying that "Mubarak is fighting death."
On order from the public prosecutor, Mubarak was transferred from Tora Prison to the Maadi military hospital on Thursday after falling and injuring himself in the bathroom. The state-run news agency MENA repored that Mubarak suffered a crack in his ribs and a blood clot after his fall. He was taken to the military hospital and examined by a medical committee that decided to keep him there.
The 84-year-old former president’s health has deteriorated sharply several times since he was sentenced to life in prison in June for the killing of protesters during the 2011 revolution.
