The number arrested in connection with Friday’s clashes in downtown Cairo has reached 39, with suspects accused of everything from damaging property to “terrorizing citizens.”
All of the arrested have also been accused of assaulting security forces.
Meanwhile, Ambulance Authority head Mohamed Sultan said that the number of people injured in clashes nationwide reached 101. Other sources added that 17 of the injured were policemen, who suffered birdshot wounds.
In an earlier statement on Facebook, the ministry said Friday that three of the arrested are accused of burning a bus in Abdel Moneim Riyadh Square, while 16 others are accused of hurling Molotovs and stones at police on Ramses Street.
The ministry said that all the suspects will be referred to prosecutors for further investigation.
Clashes had broken out in both locations between security forces and protesters, with security firing tear gas to disperse protesters after they hurled Molotovs.
Satellite TV channel Al Jazeera Mubasher Misr showed footage of protesters burning a bus belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood parked on Ramses Street.
The Health Ministry also said in a statement on Friday that the number of injured during clashes in both locations Friday stood at 87.
