Up to 2000 Egyptian doctors prepare to enter the Gaza Strip

The head of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate (EMS), Osama Abdel-Hay, announced on Friday that more than 2,000 Egyptian doctors are ready to enter Gaza Strip as volunteers to treat the wounded, following the announcement of a ceasefire.

Abdel-Hay’s statements come amid intensive Egyptian efforts to bring in large quantities of humanitarian and relief aid into Gaza through Rafah crossing as soon as it reopens, in addition to receiving the wounded and preparing hospitals and medical teams.

Aid trucks lined up at Rafah crossing waiting to cross into the strip.

Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar held a meeting in Cairo with the ministry’s leaders to review the readiness of North Sinai hospitals and medical teams in the emergency care departments and medical equipment in the hospitals of Arish, Bir al-Abd and Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai Governorate.

The EMS further announced that it is communicating with the Egyptian Red Crescent to prepare relief convoys to the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, stressing the need to provide the necessary needs for the health sector in Gaza as soon as possible, and to provide all possible support to it.

The Syndicate called on the international community to pressure Israel to release all medical crews arrested while performing their work inside Gaza hospitals, which have not been spared from Israel’s bombing and attacks for more than a year.

The union stated that its “relief efforts” began since the first day of Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.

It further noted its participation in preparing relief convoys and opening the door for volunteering for doctors, training some of them in cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent to participate in providing medical and emergency services to those in need.
