The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned of unstable weather conditions during Eid al-Fitr, with rainfall expected across most of the country potentially leading to flash floods.
During Eid al-Fitr, low and medium-level clouds will increase, accompanied by varying intensities of rain and occasional thunder, alongside strong winds carrying sand and dust.
Weather maps indicate moderate to heavy rainfall in parts of Sinai, the Red Sea mountain range, the Gulf of Suez, and northern Upper Egypt, with the possibility of flash floods in some areas.
The rain will extend in lighter to moderate amounts across Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, the Nile Delta, the North Coast, and southern Upper Egypt at intervals.
Heavy winds
Winds will be active across most areas at speeds ranging from 40 to 50 km/h, and may stir up sand and dust, impacting horizontal visibility to less than 1000 meters in some areas, especially in the north and south of Upper Egypt and south and east of Cairo.
There may be strong gusts reaching speeds of up to 60 and 70 km/h.
Maritime navigation will be disrupted along the Red Sea and the Gulf of Suez, with wave heights ranging from 2.5 to four meters.
Navigation will also disrupted in some areas of the Mediterranean Sea, including Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, el-Alamein, Alexandria, and Baltim, with wave heights ranging from 2.5 to three meters.
Slight increase in temperatures
The EMA noted a slight increase in temperatures, ranging from two to three degrees across most of the country.
The Authority warned citizens against standing under trees, billboards, and dilapidated buildings to avoid the dangers of strong winds. It also cautioned about the possibility of flash floods on some roads, particularly in the Sinai Peninsula, the Red Sea region, and Upper Egypt.
The EMA further noted the potential for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, with the possibility of hail in some areas, along with strong downdrafts beneath the thunderstorms.
The authority urged citizens to stay updated and take all necessary precautions.
