On Sunday, gunmen killed a 23-year-old army officer while he was driving his car near the Engineers Club in New Damietta city.
The officer tried to close the window, however, the gunmen shot him multiple times and fled the scene.
The victim was transferred to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and are looking for the assailants.
Police and army personnel have become the target of revenge attacks in the past year, following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsy.
Gunmen say these attacks come in retaliation for the killings by government forces during the dispersal of sit-ins in 2013.
