Syrian activists in Cairo on Monday announced the establishment of the Free Syrians Union to oppose President Bashar al-Assad who lost his legitimacy, as they put it.
“We are proud to form our union in Egypt, the country that taught the world the meaning of freedom and dignity, said union co-founder Lina al-Tayby.
“We want to benefit from the Egyptian revolution in our endeavor,” said union member Haitham al-Maleh.
The union aims to preserve Syrian national unity, keep the revolution peaceful, reject foreign military intervention and work on toppling the regime.
