Unified Friday sermons to stress sanctity of places of worship

Alexandria’s department for government-run mosques has received a communication from the Ministry of Islamic Endowments urging imams to tackle issues of terrorism and Muslim-Coptic unity during the upcoming Friday sermons, said the department’s head, Maher Abdel Wahed.

Abdel Wahed said the sermons will have a unified topic that handles the New Year’s Eve suicide bombing which targeted an Alexandria church, killing 21 and injuring up to 96. Imams will be instructed to preach on unity and the renunciation of violence, and to stress the sanctity of places of worship.
