UNESCO holds meeting in Cairo on flood hazards

The consultative meeting for the UNESCO national coordinators will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters in Cairo to tackle how to manage the hazards that result from seasonal floods in Jordan, Sudan, Egypt and Yemen.
 
Mohamed al-Awa, who is in charge of the environment and earth sciences program at UNESCO’s Regional Office for Science and Technology in the Arab States (ROSTAS), said national experts from the countries in question will take part in the meeting. Each country will show the progress achieved in its national plan with regards to limiting the dangers that result from natural catastrophes, as well as methods of turning them into investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture.
 
The meeting is organized by ROSTAS, in collaboration with the Japanese government.
