UN-Habitat honors NACDW for overseeing WUF12’s volunteer organizers

The United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) honored the National Alliance for Civil and Developmental Work (NACDW) for its role in overseeing the selection and management of volunteer organizers of the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum (WUF12).

Concluded in Cairo Friday 8/11/2024, the prestigious event was organized by UN-Habitat in cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, alongside the Local Development Ministry.

UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach hailed NACDW’s role in coordinating volunteer work and managing their tasks as essential in providing logistical, administrative, and humanitarian support for the events, positively impacting its flow and success.

Established in March 2022, NACDW has a broad volunteer base comprising 34 developmental and service organizations. The alliance continues to unify volunteer databases across its member organizations, aiming to employ these volunteers’ skills and capabilities in a more professional manner.

The National Training Academy, a member of the alliance, was responsible for training and preparing the volunteers for their roles.

The academy was established on August 28, 2017, based on Presidential Decree No. 434 of 2017, following recommendations from the First National Youth Conference held in Sharm El Sheikh in November 2016.

The 12th edition of the World Urban Forum hosted thousands of participants over five days, including representatives from governments, companies, community leaders, urban planners, and civil society organizations. The forum’s main sessions will be live-streamed in all six United Nations languages, in addition to international and Arabic sign languages.
