Last Thursday, the Petroleum Pricing Committee announced an increase in the prices of gasoline and diesel. Subsequently, Uber Egypt, a company that provides on-demand transportation services via mobile app, has decided to raise the prices of its rides in Cairo and Alexandria.
According to a message sent by Uber to its drivers, a copy of which was obtained by Al Masry Al Youm, the company stated: “We are committed to providing you with the best driving experience on our platform and helping to improve earning opportunities for driver-partners while ensuring that millions of riders can continue to move around cities without stress.”
The company explained: “We reviewed Uber product prices in Cairo and Alexandria at the beginning of summer 2024 and after the recent increase in gasoline prices, we increased the fare for rides by 8 percent, bringing the total average percentage increase in fares to 15 percent.”
Uber Egypt is the second company in the smart transportation services sector to decide to raise the prices of its rides after Didi Egypt.
